Turns out I can do an update without a party member dying for once. Spent most of the time grinding and making new catches. Beatrix evolved at level 25 which is pretty quick. Flubbed a sandile catch but caught Trubbish and was lucky enough to snag heracross in lostlorn forest. If you couldn't guess, Gendry solo'd elesa's gym and will evolve next level when it learns earthquake. Now it's just a matter of catching up with everyone sub lvl 29 and progressing.
