>>36244926Another issue I had was that there were far, far too many characters in order for me to appreciate most of them. Too many would show up and then vanish for 5+ hours of game play, during which you would be introduced to another 20 characters. Too many of them felt indistinguishable from each other, either because like 15 separate characters had pink hair or their story/characterization were too similar. I ended up only really even bothering with the few characters who would routinely stay around the MC, plus one or two others. The prequel sure did help with some side characters and desu I think the focused storyline of that prequel makes it better overall than the base game. The towns as well all blend into the background and each other, with few exceptions. They're all way too big, too uniform in color and few have very many useful landmarks, which just leaves the play tired and confused.
All in all, would I recommend them? Despite what I've said, yeah definitely. The games are a big time investment and are sadly weighed down by tediousness for it's own sake, too many characters and a touch too much fedora tipping edge. But they are ambitious unlike almost any other game and will reward you if you're willing to invest yourself into them for a few days. I'm of half a mind to do a full pokedex, but because they game technically isn't finished yet, I don't wanna do that and have the chance of not being able to transfer my save files, plus you can guarantee that the game maker will make half the legendaries uncatchable for some stupid reason too and I'd hate to have a 95% completed dex forever.
Pic related was my team for the game, I went with mons I had never used before in any game story. Liked em all except solrock who was generally shit the entire game, bar one moment when he swept a dude who had just swept my whole team. Almost felt worth the effort to raise the stupid thing then.
