Further pushes towards competitive with introduced QoL and the first proper ranking system, the entire Raid system getting monthly (or so) events, Dynamax Adventures, the Wild Areas acting as some psuedo-MMO hub, etc. I'd say the Stamp system is ALSO a push towards multiplayer, its just that they fucked it hard.
On another note, I think this equivalence is faulty on the premise of the fact that he's talking about Metroid losing it's way and the series tanking into dormancy because of it. Pokemon's arguably lost it's way to a lot of people, but it's continued success proves that they have yet to alienate even half of their market, unlike what Other M did. Granted, Metroid isn't the multimedia mogul Pokemon is, so the fanbase probably had a way lower shit tolerance on account of being more dedicated, but the point stands.
