Now, he's been through a gauntlet and is at the tail-end of a 6v6. He's exhausted, will only hold the form just long enough to potentially win (maybe even a double KO), but Alain will squeak by on top.
Then, all the Mega energy he's gathered launches Flare's plan for Zygarde. He walks away with Lysandre. 10-20 episodes later, Ash and Alain have their final battle to stop Flare, and that's the fight Ash wins.
That way, he loses the league but beats Alain.
