Even the Gen 7 games had Kukui talking about wanting the best league and hinting that the Island Challenge would be the standard. Here, they're just letting any schmuck in just because regardless if they completed it or not. They couldn't bother with the Meme Royale having a multiple of 16 just to make the Royales more interesting. They should have just used the Clubsplosion standard.
