The main reason I chose the colors and cloud style was because I was thinking that since Eeveelutions are pretty much colored colors that are commonly associated with their type. I also wanted to use colors that were actually used ingame as well (don't the games have a color limit on the mons?).
As for the clouds, maybe cirrus clouds instead? Those are more wispy.
