People often get it after a contact with cat shit or eating uncooked meat with the cyst, but it's only a problem if you have a weak immunologic system or are pregnant(since it could get to your baby). By default the parasite circulates between cats and cat prey, and to ensure its success it alters a behavior of the prey to make it more willing to get into a contact with a cat and get eaten.
There are some studies implying the parasite also modifies human behavior. Men are supposedly more likely to break rules and become more withdrawn, suspicious and jealous, while women are more warm hearted, outgoing, conscientious and moralistic. The parasite might also fuck up your concentration and reactions, as people who have toxoplasmosis are more likely to get into traffic accidents.
Between 1/3 and 1/2 of humanity are estimated have the toxoplasmosis cysts, but the percentage varies between the countries.
