pic related is why you're not getting a national dex, or rather a game like pic related. What is the real reason people are so upset about the loss of so many pokemon? Sure we all have a favorite we want to bring with us, but most stick to using new mons anyway. One of the biggest criticisms of the new gens is them forcing old mons onto you instead of spotlighting new ones. So why are people so upset?
Competitive. The competitive scene is a big part of why pokemon has maintained such a fervent following and it's where the true depth of the series is revealed. When the game is finished, you want to build a real team and use it to fight your friends, and at a point you're going to want the ones that came before on your team. a new pokemon game is generally where the competitive scene moves, and the switch titles even more so. A lot of people even think the cuts were main to force a new meta to the competitive, but I think it's much simpler.
you used to get dedicated games just for the competitive scene. Stadium and Stadium 2 had solo content in a sense but nothing like the main games, it was mostly to make fights more cinematic. Colosseum and XD had the same systems though they had fun enough story modes as well. the lukewarm reception to Battle Revolution put TPC off of it for a while, but now they've got the perfect setup. and you can be sure this won't be a new game, but a service you pay for continually. get ready for stadium as a live service.
