>SuperThey learned from a lot of Gates' mistakes, but there's still a fair amount of issues.
>The starter selection's larger again, but it's only starters+pika+riolu. Disappointing if you liked picking something more unusual like a Munchlax or a Vulpix in the past.>Recruits come at set times from set missions. It isn't as simple as going to a random dungeon and beating on shit until they join.>Heavy focus on item usage, to the point where your Pokemon choice matters less than any other game.>The IQ skill equivalent is Emeras, which are randomly spawned gems found in dungeons that vanish when you leave the dungeon. Some suck but others like Bulldoze and Ally Reviver are overpowered>Plot goes off the rails, with an ending that raises more questions than it answers. Impossible to put off the plot to screw around at all during the story>thrown items are beyond useless lategame, as enemies will catch them without fail and throw them in your face>the standin for Wigglytuff's Guild has all of one character that does anything while the rest are walking catchphrases>worst level 1 dungeons in the series, Sacred Ruins pits you against level 20-25 pokemon on the first floor, one of which is a Bellossom with stats so jacked up that it can OHKO even pokemon that quad resist Grass. No reward for beating them.>The pokemon you recruit randomly stop being usable for several ingame days, making relying on anything that isn't a roided up player/protag an exercise in frustrationBut at LEAST the dungeons themselves are better. Moment to moment dungeon gameplay is better all around than Gates, and bosses don't all have a random Focus Band effect like in Gates. But it all comes at the cost of losing the other things Gates did to spice up the dungeons.
