Basically, the people back then were very very protective of the OP pasta and would make threads when the old thread was at 250 or so, so that when the old thread hit bump, there was already a new thread "waiting" to be used. They were basically making sure no one else was making threads back then; if anyone else made a thread, especially one that modified or changed the pasta, they'd ignore that thread and make their own. That's actually where the nickname "cabal" came from.
