Consider this, /vp/.
The key to having a fantastic Mega design is to take a Pokemon's main defining feature and enhancing the original design based off of it.
Mega Mawile is so simple yet so effective this way. That's why it's so unanimously loved by the fans.
Mega Kangaskhan does this right in a different way. The idea of the parent Kanga giving the enhancements of the mega stone to her child in order to fight alongside it is simply genius.
Mega Alakazam is great too. The change from being a mere magician to becoming a goddamned wizard is a fantastic concept that ties together so well.
To a lesser extent, Mega Gallade is doing it right too. The Gardy line is supposed to be a loyal guardian/loyal warrior kind of thing, and now Gallade looks the part in my eyes.
Blastoise gets more cannons, and hey. That's pretty fucking cool to me. I don't even care if the guns at the side of its shell are gone. It's following my idea of what makes a good mega design, and I like it.
Things that did it completely wrong include Aerodactyl and Sharpedo. If I were to design Mega Sharpedo, I would've taken Sharpedo's original design, and made it look more like a torpedo, a bit of mechanical flare thrown into it.
