I personally remember this one being believed by a lot for a long time.

The genius of it is anyone who was skeptical was accused of being butthurt about the fourth fire/fighting starter. It's pretty clever because most fakers go for something they want or they think others want, whereas doing something no-one wants seemed more like GF.

Fennekin's line is more likely to wind up as Fire/Fighting than any other type combination besides regular Fire, which would be worse than Fire/Fighting.
