By commissioning people to design/draw an OC for you, you're proving yourself worse than the Sonic fandom, because they at least take a little bit of effort and proudly display the results of their work.
It's always been something by artists, for artists, and anyone who argues against it is a fucking retard. I have always seen excuses like "well, does that mean J.K. Rowling has no right to Harry Potter?", but I have also seen people circle back to wanting a visual representation of a character.
It's a soulless shortcut that leads to a significantly more mediocre experience overall.
