You could remove the swords entirely and the design wouldn't have to change at all, they're about as integral to the design as Blastoise's cannons. If they really did design this thing with the intention to use swords then they must've been trying to hide them. Maybe they thought a Pokemon with a sword visibly-integrated into its design would be too edgy or mature? I dunno.
