We all hate it. We all know why they do it. Its to squeeze money out of the fans.
People can white knight them day and night, go on and on about tradition and "wanting to encourage trading". Well you know what. I can fit both those criteria without us needing 2 copies of the same game.
When starting a new game, you have a Trainer ID and a Secret ID that are generated.
Just tie a bunch of Pokemon spawns to this.
Every time you make a new game, certain Pokemon will be locked out of what you can obtain normally without trading.
Bam. Fixed.
It's that fucking simple.
Now you're still encouraged to trade with others, AND the game is given the smallest hint of replay value in that starting a new game will re-roll the dice and swap which Pokemon you can get.
Imagine starting a new game and finding that, along with the regional rodent and bird, you have access to Fletchling and Bidoof. But if you start a new game, now you have access to Tailow and Rattata.
What about version exclusive forms?
Do the same thing with the existing ones, and then stop fucking making version exclusive forms in future gens. Simple.
Why the fuck do we put up with this shit? If the codfags got CoD: Black Ops Version and CoD: Spetsnaz Version, they'd blow their fucking lid and scare ActiBliz into never doing it again. Why do we put up with what can so easily be fixed by tying it to a mechanic that already exists.
