I lead Gyarados as Skarm sets Rocks and I Dragon Rage it down low. She swaps to Dodrio before I kill, a particularly dangerous Banded set, so I go Lairon to tank. I guess a switch and go back to Gyarados as she swaps to Gliscor, correct play as I then swap to Alolan Ninetales who blocks Toxic with a Pecha Berry, sets up Nasty Plot, then kills with Ice Beam even through the strong winds. Crobat comes out but quickly falls to Gigalith, Skarm comes back out to die to Gyarados, and Lairon beats Dodrio.
Final mon is Mega Pinsir, though, and it's a monster. This is where I learn a quirk of the AI - if you try Intimidate pivoting, at least on Insane difficulty, it WILL read your inputs. I try pivoting with Lairon and Gyarados and Lairon gets instagibbed by EQ for its trouble. I send in physically bulky Noctowl to try and 1v1 it ,but it ate an Air Slash and responded with a powerful Aerilate Facade and surprisingly powerful Feint to kill. Dodrio was the last mon I had with good health, and it dodged a crit from Feint to land a Pluck to kill.
Cringe, but just what it is.

But that shouldn't happen, are you grinding up to his level? Mons like Geodude or Onix can handle the Cranidos really well due to resisting Headbutt. Also Water/Grass mons like Psyduck or Roselia should kill his team without much issue.

Even if I didn't, I think it's probably too much effort for some runs, why would you breed? Most of the time you don't need better IVs or Egg Moves (and in the games where you do such as hard romhacks, there's often ways to increase IVs/learn Egg Moves besides).
