The toxins in its belly, in addition to causing everlasting burns, also permit Houndoom to consume and digest utterly nearly anything. This draws it on occasion roadways where it eats the carcasses of Pokemon struck by vehicles or to urban areas where it may feast on trash. In addition to providing nourishment, this may also strengthen the toxins within it and thus its fire attacks and burn effects.
The nature of Houndoom's toxin-based fire is a matter of some debate by researchers. One camp believes that Houndoom was once a Dark/Poison type which developed Fire attacks accidentally when its poisons began mixing into flammable compounds. Others believe it was a Fire/Poison type which became too unstable and evolved Dark typing to mitigate the effects of its toxic gastric fluids.
