By the way, the same interview says they they were forced for make Gen2 Pokemon simple to appease the merch and anime depts, but they were given more freedom in when making the gen3 mons. This is likely the reason why Gen2 Pokémon are constantly shafted (Game Freak is still bitter about merch and anime depts interfering with Gen2 mons designs so Game Freak take their frustrations out on the Gen2 mons)
