After traps are up, I usually pair him with a support gallade. Nobody expects Gallade to do anything but swords dance and attack, but it has proven valuable in a support role with moves like heal pulse and wide guard, plus its base defense stats aren't bad at all. And even with most of its EVs invested in defensive stats, it has enough base attack to finish something off if need be.
