In addition to dragons and hammerhead sharks, garchomp has the shark teeth decal on fighter planes as inspiration. Obviously putting shark teeth on the nose of a shark is redundant, so they gave it a marking reminiscent of a starburst flame nosecone decals.
Removing it both makes it feel oddly blank and removes a cool inspiration cue.
