It's fine to have beastlike starters, but more humanoid designs aren't a bad thing, since starters aren't common in the wild (& if they were, then it kinda ruins the experience, since it renders your initial choice kinda useless).
I do think it could've done with maybe less of those bits on the thigh and such, but it's not so bad as to hate it.
