Continuing on with his journey, Cyrus took the foot path from Slateport to Mauville City. On the way, he met his rival, May. Regrettably, May was not as strong as her rival Cyrus, and he easily took apart her team with Ember on Shroomish and Vital Throw on Marshtomp.
In a battle against a Psychic just before Mauville, Babe saw his inner power and evolved into Hariyama! His bulk increased and he quickly became the MVP of the duo.
In Mauville City, Cyrus obtained a Mach Bike from Ryder and took it all the way back to Slateport so he could hunt for a Geodude for Rock Smash fodder. Realizing this was against the rules, after he was already at Slateport, Cyrus went through all of Granite Cave to obtain all of the miscellaneous items. He then taught Rock Smash to Babe after obtaining the HM from the guy in Mauville City.
Cyrus steeled himself for the battle against Wattson. It would be the toughest battle he had faced yet, but after doing some grinding, Cyrus was ready. He easily swept through the gym trainers with Babe and Richard at the helm.
The battle began! Cyrus sent out Babe, the Hariyama, to combat Wattson's Magnemite. A single Rock Smash almost knocked out Magnemite, who got out a Thunder Wave that turn. Paralyzed, Babe had to sit through a single Thundershock before retaliating with another Rock Smash to finish the Pokemon off.
Voltorb was sent out next, and he used Charge in order to prep for Spark next turn. Cyrus called out for Vital Throw, and Babe worked through his Paralysis for a clean knock out.
Magneton was coming up and Babe was still Paralyzed. Rather than risk something incredibly stupid happening, Cyrus called Richard out to battle. An Ember right off the bat put Magneton in the red, and added a burn on top of that. Magneton got out a Shock Wave on Richard, and to finish the match, Richard fired off another Ember.
Wattson gave Cyrus the Dynamo badge for winning. What is to come next for our heroes?
