PM is hot garbage. It has nothing going for it. Even Sun and Moon was better. Goh is an absolutely middling character at best, and Koharu is easily the worst pokegirl in the entire show, topping even BW Iris in that regard. The animation is garbage. Ash's PM team is uber strong for no reason as they barely get any development that shows them actually earning their strength. Ash never has to defend this position in the ladder. The music is utterly uninspired when compared to the hype soundtracks of SM, XY or DP.
The only thing that anyone even talks about regarding this show is the fanservice. It's literally the only thing that it has going for it. Lillie and Gary's returns were well-received; Dawn's returns were kinda meh but the character herself being back was appreciated; Serena's return broke the fucking community. Think about it: this series sucks so much that the only things anyone is interested about it are returning from other, better, series.
And even in that they do a poor job most of the time. Iris? Somehow became champion despite never having that ambition in her actual series. Masters 8? They took the laziest route and made the M8 the game champions despite most of the roster not even showing up as the series went by so narrative-wise they're literal whos instead of true rivals. Alain? Subvert expectations in a way that would make the Game of Thrones writers blush with making him there just to job to Leon. Reserves? Never actually battle; Infernape jobs to Moltres and Greninja is just a prop for Lucario while having its iconic form retconned away.
This series is a soulless, rushed deject by incompetent writers who can't even do fanservice right. But I take comfort on the fact that if ending theorists are right it will be absolutely deserving for this show to die an ignominious and disgraceful death like this one.
