PWT fits this games story more than it did for Bw2, it ties directly into what Kukui's dream is when he builds the League, since he wants Alola and it's trainers to be recognized all over the world
>"I've always valued our old traditions here in Alola, but it's time to make a Champion the whole world will recognize!"
>"To think that, someday, the kiddos in Alola will be able to go from being the island challenge champion to the world Champion! And then, when we have our own Champion, they can show the rest of the world what's so special about Alolan Pokémon and their Trainers, yeah!"
>"Man, the Pokémon and the Trainers in Alola really are the best! I want everyone in the world to know that, too! That's always been my dream! And right here, right now, it finally came true! And it's all thanks to you"
Maybe in USUM, Alola is chosen to be the site of the next PWT (Gamefreak mentioned that they chose Hawaii for the region partially because the World Championships are held there often)
This is what prompts Kukui to build the League in the first place, to prepare Alola for the event by anointing their first Champion
