This is why Incineroar faced as much push back as it did and in the early stages of gen 7 Decidueye was thought to be a guarantee for Smash especially since it made it into Pokken because of how popular it was at the time.
Ultimately Decidueye's early popularity and Game Freak's ignoring of it were more early warning signs of how little they care about any sort of feedback from the fans.
