Update: Apparently Redditors did some testing and determined that you can immediately subdue a raid boss if people use a total of 8 purified gems against the raid boss (a single person can only use up to 5, so solos must take into account guaranteed enrage phase):

Then again, that's assuming the number of gems needed is 8 for all shadow raid bosses. Imagine if Shadow Mewtwo requires 15 gems or more to be subdued.
