The 'balls' have opened up — maybe there's a constant cloud of status inducing spores on the battle field so anyone switching in gets a status —if it's sleep and you wake up a new status takes effect (could be sleep again though). Defenses reduced, but speed and special attack and maybe HP go up.
It could have a potential second ability, which would be useless in competitive battles, but megavolving amoongus in a wild battle means it has a chance of catching the wild foe.
