I never played the Pokemon games as a kid. I was aware of the anime and had some merchandise, but the games were something I wasn't aware of. Didn't live in a western country, for one thing. I also hated the anime dub; it was bad enough to turn me away from the franchise.
I only recently got into the series, starting out with Gen IV. Honestly I'm really glad I don't have any nostalgic biases whatsoever.
My favorite Pokemon is Gothitelle. I used to think I couldn't pick just one, but it won me over.
