>>42926096Blastoise, Sceptile and the Johto starters are all fine as monotype. The Johto trio should be all or none, and them getting secondary types in my mind works better for if they ever get a mega or a regional form. Design-wise, it's difficult to slap another type on them and not have it feel even like a little bit of a stretch.
Blastoise would only be hurt by gaining its most logical secondary type, Steel, and since it's alternate forms don't have a secondary type I think it's pretty clear it's meant to just be pure water. Also, Sceptile gaining dragon typing upon going mega pretty much covers what its second type would be but giving that to the base form would pretty much remove what makes the mega special.
Unova trio should have all had secondary types from the get-go. I like that one rom hack that gave Serperior dragon and Samurott fighting. I guess that would mean that Emboar would have to change two-part ground like that rom hack as well, since having two fighting type starters in the same game does seem kind of weird. Alternatively Samurott could gain steel or even rock just to set it apart and keep Emboar as it is.
Galar trio should have been the typing that everybody speculated / leaked. Rillaboom should have been part normal if only because normal sort of represents sound and it would give it better options for STAB. Cinderace would really benefit from an electric typing since it's already popular, so why not make it more unique too? And Inteleon should have been part poison since it goes with the spy-theme plus that sets it apart from all the other pure water starters. I still don't own sword or shield, but from my understanding Inteleon is the lamest of the three starters competitively so giving it poison typing would at least help it be more defensive and possibly allow it to hit more targets a little harder.
