Gen 8 takes place in a region that has been heavily damaged by humans to the point that the box legendaries attempt to attack and kill anyone that even remotely looks like a person. Thus in order to actively explore the region (and stay on it) you must use [insert dumb sci-fi bullshit here] to become a Pokemon and instead of a team of 6 it's a team of 5 pokemon plus the MC. Also the game is a joint Game Freak/Spike-Chunsoft venture and it's actually Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 6 (if you count adventure squad) because by the time Gen 8 is even realized LGPE will have killed the mainline series and relegated the franchise to wallow in shallow spinoffa and mobile garbage.
