SM and USUM unironically tried to make more challenging fights and did a pretty decent job with Totems, and set behaviors like Kukui starting his fight with Espionage Pebbles, but almost no one brings up or cares about that. Meanwhile, SWSH and LGPE are complete jokes and still sold like crazy.
The whole dexit thing gave Pokecultists "legitimacy" over anything that could be deemed toxic too, so don't expect any complaints about difficulty or the lack of a hard mode to hold any weight, you'll just be told that it's a kid's game and that the devs shouldn't have to put in actual effort to please incels on 4chan.
