I liked it as a kid as it was something I could make and interact with friends with.
I can still do that today, but I understand younger me was in no position to judge the series out of selfish escapism at the time, be it out of lack of experience, context or understanding.
Today, I'm often confused and outright disappointed more than I am impressed with any new additions that meet the Pokémon formula. I've grown with age, but I don't always feel like the games are taking advantage of this new future as well as they could, be it out of fear of change, or simple incompetence. I'll still like Pokémon because of what it represents to me, and the core ideals behind it are still something I can get behind. But outside of this core, which is decaying more and more as time passes, I can't say I'm going to blindly eat up anything that has the Pokémon name on it just because of what it was.
tl;dr, loved it little; unnerved with it today.
