Ok retards let me break it down for you. The reason pokemon clones fail is because you KEEP CALLING THEM POKEMON CLONES.
Yo-Kai Watch was popular in Japan. So popular it basically was Pokemania 2.0 over there. Jibanyan mascot costumes roamed the streets for fuck's sake. It had merchandise. It had an anime. It had a solid premise and it had some pretty decent creatures.
So why has it since descended into irrelevancy? Even after their two best games in Yo-Kai Watch 3 and 4?
Because of the west and the west's obsession with pokemon.
"IS YO-KAI WATCH GONNA BE THE POKEMON KILLER??"
"THE NEXT BIG COMPETITOR TO POKEMON: YO-KAI WATCH"
Yo-Kai Watch failed in the west because everyone views monster catching games as pokemon alternatives or pokemon killers. You only talk about other monster catching games in relation to this franchise
"Hey look what SMT is doing! That's the grown up's Pokemon!"
"Ew holy shit that design looks like a Digimon"
The reason monster catching games fail can definitely be because they're gameplay is shit or their monster designs are ass. But at the end of they day they fail because you guys can only view them as alternatives to pokemon, and the second they don't scratch that itch you're back here.
