One thing I really love about gen 4 is the sprites, particularly the back sprites. They are so detailed. That's why I like gen 5 sprites way less, the back sprites look so ''blurry'' and not as detailed. I think gen 4 was the speak of their 2d/spritework and I really wished they kept building on that. There's just something so charming about the gen 4 backsprites that no future gens have captured since. Pic related are just some of the few examples on top of my head.
