At this point, only way to save pokemon anime is to bring game character as protagonist, and show how real trainer look like.
My idea for ZA special:
>Serena main character, who is battler just like in games and become champion>but then Zygarde send her back in time for a mission with a mysterious helmet look like a bucket>she must mentor trainer called "Alain">zygarde say, Alain was fated hero, but because he rival was such weakling Alain never got strong enough to defeated evil vines>Serena decide become Alain real rival for him to get fired up>Ash appear in Kalos League, but he so weak and easily defeated by Serena Mega Absol in one shot all 6 of his pokemon in a row. Ash try aim for the horn but Mega Absol dodge it and one shot Pikachu, then Serena insult Ash for not evolve he pokemon and force them fight in weaker form.>Alain fight Serena, and he stronger because of Serena better rival, but still not able defeated her, but he manage to KO Mega Absol and even KO her Jolteon>Alain get fired up because of how strong his new rival is, and train on evil vines so hard that they destroyed entirely in just one week>Serena return home and laugh, because Alain never get rematch so she always the winner>but then Serena think "wait, that was not back in time!" and then discover it was parallel universe, which get her interest in Terapagos so she meet Juliana
