Gengar has a base SpAtk of 170 and a base Spd and has an insane amount of type coverage. I fucking shit my pants when I sent out a Dark type to counter it and it used fucking DAZZLING GLEAM of all things and fucked it up. A Timid Mega Gengar with perfect IVs and EV training in speed and special attack can outrun every single Pokemon outside of one or two other Megas. Literally the only two counters to Mega Gengar are either Sucker Punch or Trick Room.
