Something a friend of mine recommended to me in an attempt to stem the tide of me reading absolutely terrible books (which was a partial success, in that I read it and I found those books to be not terrible but then I kept reading absolutely terrible books). Anyway, the trilogy is callled Their Bright Ascendance but the first book is called The Tiger's Daughter.
