I had not played any games between generations 2 and 6. I was more into Digimon, Tamagotchi, and some other PS2 stuff. I took the occasional peek back at what Pokemon was doing, but the way that competitive battling/breeding and shit was explained on the 2000-era sites, it looked like an overly complicated mess of bullshit that just wasn't for me. Besides, my family was getting poor, my parents were going through a nasty split, and we couldn't afford to buy more video game consoles.
Years later, I got a 3DS cheap off a former coworker because he was buying the New 3DS. Pokemon Sun and Moon got announced. I thought they looked fun, but wasn't sure if I really wanted to get into it. Then a friend gifted me Sun. I really did have a great time with it, and I'm glad to be back into Pokemon.
