>>46399309I forced myself to prefer Gengar for a really long time but I'm finally at peace with liking Haunter more. It's just that Gengar's design loses too much of the spectral shadowy ghostly feel. I guess you could try to justify it as part of the concept of the doppelganger gradually materializing but that still doesn't cut it for me.
It's clear the design was originally not a envisioned as ghost at all, even in the intro that made it into the game you see it having defined regular claws and using some sort of scratch attack. Not to mention the disappointment of going from having a long bizarre spooky cry to a generic short animal roar.
I love the cheshire grin too but at the end of the day the massive disembodied demonclaws still trump it.
