I wanted to be against the "ORAS is bad" meme, because I really like Hoenn, so I finished OR some days ago, but I have to admit that the game really feels underwhelming compared to XY.
Kalos has a new region, new pokémon, characters, the 3D graphics for the first time in-gameplay, but ORAS feels underdeveloped, the overworld is much more minecraft than XY, because they mainly made 3D copies from the originals, the thing is that in a 2D game you don't have the blocky feel that you have in 3D scenery if it was the same.
ORAS could've make better use of certain features, could've made new interesting features that actually impacted the gameplay and replayability more than things like Soaring which is a redundant variation of the logic of Fly (why couldn't you just use a Pokémon with Fly to soar?). All the horde of legendaries also seems just a excuse to make them have pentagon for official competitions.
All in all, I think that a remakes needs new things to keep the things fresh for old players, but ORAS is kinda lazy in Graphics/Concept/Gameplay. I really love XY, but if I wanted to play a Hoenn game again, I could just play Emerald.
