Most reef species' survival depends on the survival of coral, so they're kind of seen as an "apex predator" of sorts. Destroying reefs and kicking everything else out of their homes in the process because fuck you, I'm a giant badass starfish that looks like it got lost on its way back from a Dimmu Borgir concert. Fittingly, a Brütal Star.
You can kill them with household vinegar though.
