>>12274939In all honesty, Yayakoma is probably based more on the European Robin, seeing as how the region is France and they are super common and well-loved there. The Japanese game developers are just using the Japanese name for their local counterpart, which is very closely related. Plus it has the benefit of being familiar to Japanese players, too. European/Japanese robins are flycatchers, American robins are thrushes, and no one really knows what Australian robins are related to, but they are all named for each other because of that red breast they have in common.
Honestly, since robins (in all forms) are well-known and popular around the world it makes sense to finally make a Pokemon out of them.
