Lo and behold, a Rock Head Kanto (don't @ me) mon gets a recoil move it can abuse. Unfortunately Steelix lost STAB, but this Head Smash distribution looks promising for certain other K-K-KANTO mons if you, ahem, know what I mean.
This isn't even the best new addition. While GF remains coy in giving shovel snek the Glare/Coil duo, Steelix gets Dragon Dance this generation to greatly empower its setup potential. It also gets Drill Run and High Horsepower as single targeting moves for Doubles, and utility in Breaking Swipe and Psychic Fangs which can also be abused by Sheer Force. Body Press is a new move I mentioned earlier, and there is hardly a better user than Steelix. Body Press calculates off the defense, which means for Steelix this move is calculating off a 200 base attack without investment, and getting around the burn status while doing it. Steelix never got Fighting type coverage before either. Oh, and I bet you never knew Steelix couldn't learn Iron Defense of all things???
Is it just me, or is it surreal that Steelix can't learn Rage anymore?
