I think TPCi is doing this rebranding in order to be more "official" with what game each season is representing. (ie: They call it "Ruby and Sapphire" and "XY" simply because it's based off of those games) Unfortunately that means they have to tack on "THE SERIES: [GAME]" and cut out all the title creativity.
This might also subtly confirm that the current season name "Pokemon The Series: XY" is here to stay too. With no more season separation shit.
