That said, it would literally take only a single new Pokédex entry that mentions it behaving meanly, and the lack of Dark Type would seriously be hard to ignore.

Most I can say is that anyone can choose to be evil, but thematics matters a lot in Pokémon and Dark Types are just the ones deliberately being advertised in that particular way. They play a role.
