Last gen, I picked Oshawott in both Black, and White 2 and due to its so-called "Japanese" and "Samurai" design basis, I named my team after Sengoku-era figures (i.e., the characters in Pokemon Conquest, basically). I distinctly remember my Lilligant being Okuni, due to her founding kabuki and Lilligant being a dancer and all that. Samurott was Masamune, if only because Dewott's dual-wielding distinctly reminded me of Masamune from Sengoku Basara.
This gen I named my team mostly after famous Pokemon characters (Venusaur was Oak, Gardevoir was Sabrina), except for Tyrantrum which I named John... named after, well, John Hammond.
