While we're on the topic of soul, I genuinely feel S/M/US/UM had the potential to be the single most soulful generation of all time if it wasn't for some unavoidable pitfalls (cut content, hallways, cutscenes, etc).
I feel if all the content from all 4 games got condensed into 1-2 games instead of 3-4, scrapped most of the cutscenes, added content like the golf course/inside wela voilcano/more fleshed out mt hokulani (both to the observatory and victory road in general) then the game would be absolute peak pokemon and be in my top 3 gens. There's so much charm oozing from every crevasse of this region that it's such a shame it came out with so many glaring imperfections.
