I always choose the Grass-type starter (with the exception of gen III), and I just couldn't handle how awful Meganium, Serperior, and Chesnaught were. I was actually pretty disappointed when I had to learn the hard way that Snivy and Chikorita would be bad choices, but I pretty much knew from the get-go that I would be boxing Chespin once it fully-evolved.
