In the end, we all need to realize, sure we can buy the games, but we are NOT the target audience. Children are. Mainly japanese children because the games are made there, with their market in mind.
Last-minute shounen powerups and cute things still sell to their main audience, so shounen powerups and cute things is what they will produce.
The most we can do is learn to cope, adapt and enjoy, or finally grow up and accept the games just aren't for you anymore.
