>>56242459That's a fascinating theory, honestly not really a fan of the whole alt time lines/ time travel aspect of the plot but that is a large part of SV, so I see it making sense.
Still, if Game Freak was gong for a Man vs Fate thing, then Kieran is a terrible character for it.. Usually in Man vs Fate stories, the person getting screwed over by fate has the main flaw of Hubris; they think they're invulnerable, so having forces outside of their control mess with them teaches them to be aware of their own mortality. Or even if they aren't necessarily prideful, they have some sort of power above others so seeing knocked down a peg works to humanize them. Heck, even if they're some poor slob who's constantly shit on, they usually at least unpleasant in some way, actively trying to sabotage an innocent party, or so stupid that they screw themselves even when they get a break.
TM Kieran is friendless child living in Paldea's backyard who's so scared of the world he hides behind his sister whenever he sees another human and hates himself for it, and his only crimes are, occasionally standing up for himself when his sister takes her PMS out on him (makes you wonder why he even wants the Ogre when he already has one at home), get upset when his only friend lies to him, and to win ogerpon as a prize (that last one actually is messed up, but it loses its impact when you remember this series encourages and sometimes requires you to trade away Pokemon like pogs. so what makes Ogrepon so fucking special?) regardless even for this he apologizes, then has a mental breakdown, which Child Psychology Expert Carmine writes off as "teen angst".
To be fair, ID tried to make him a villain, but we barely see him do anything villainous before he gets force-fed humble pie twice.
Why is the story so insistent on making (you) a vehicle to punish someone who barely done anything? What are you even supposed to take from the boy who has NOTHING?
